Functions of Paracords

Paracords are actually parachute chords which are light in weight, they are nylon kernmantle ropes that were originally used as suspension lines of parachutes. Paracords or a 550 chord are known for their strength, they are made of a 32 strand woven nylon outer sheath with an inner core of seven, 2 ply nylon yarns. People have been wearing them for both fashion and as a survival tool in the wilderness. The idea was generated when soldiers and firefighters thought this would be an easier and a more convenient way to hold a 550 chord in the case of emergency situations or during their jobs, the idea then reached the public and became famous, also turning into a fashion trend. But unlike other fashion trends, in relation to accessories worn, this accessory has a meaning to it and has functions that can actually be useful to the wearer. Paracords can be found on the survival prep life website.

Paracords are also called survival straps. The word ‘survival’ is included because these straps have many different functions that can help people in survival situations, for example, they can be used to make traps for animals to fall into. The bracelet can be opened into a chord and tied into snare nooses or triggers. They can be used to make fires, in the case of them helping the person create friction between two pieces of wood. In an emergency situation, if a person is bitten by something or is inflicted with a wound that is bleeding, they can use this chord and tie it around that area, in order to restrict the blood flow and save the person from extreme blood loss. Survival straps can also help people make functional shelters, the chords can be used as support for the tent and make a stronger structure.
